A RAIN

after Williams and Creeley

on the window
            rain collects
as do the words
that must be remembered

the trees
            in the distance
spread                        to let in
               rain, returning
for nourishment—

keeping us apart

is the love we need,
so badly,
rushing towards the sea?

thoughts bring you to me

together,
I am an object of wetness,
and she
            a decent happiness

in dreams
we are walking
on invisible waves,

the rain has arrived

and with each drop
the world changes

one indifference             at a time

GOING TO BED

after all that man says,
understands, and hauls forward,

he faces dark and
speaks alone

a hand falls last
creating fault

shattering heaven

SUNSHINE IN BUFFALO

the smell
the rain,
not the need
for anything.

a day
a space.
trees branch
slowly

the earth,
always moving
but now
it really is moving
